Wonderful Waterlogged Weekend!

This past weekend, my wonderful hubby whisked me away to the beach for a weekend of relaxation and refreshment. After a busy and tough week, it could not have come at a better time...

We drove over to the charming town of Seaside and stayed in a cute hotel. From the time we arrived until the moment we left, it was storming so fiercely that the rain was coming in sideways. Even though the weather severely limited our time outside, it was so nice to hunker down inside the cozy hotel, read, talk, and just spend time together. The only rules for the weekend were: no cell phones, no laptops, and no homework.

We set some goals for the coming year, talked about school, our future, our faith... My husband has an uncanny way of making me feel loved and known and pursued and appreciated. We played a lot of card games and had an epic air guitar competition.  Although, after my incredible performance of Journey's "Don't Stop Believing," my husband graciously bowed out of the competition.

Venturing out into the coastal storm, we went to dinner at an incredible seafood & steak joint. Cole had the clams and I had the steak.  Phenomenal.

Our Cute Room - I loved the bay window!

The crazy adventure came when we tried to head home on Sunday... We had barely pulled out of the hotel parking lot when we were stopped by a flagger on the side of the road.  The main road back to Forest Grove was closed to all traffic due to a landslide.  SOOOooooo.... we had to drive up through Astoria, stretching the normally 1 hour trip into a 2 1/2 hour trip.  Even then, the water was so high at points, the ocean was splashing up onto the road! We were thankful to make it home safe & sound - to say the least!

It was an absolutely wonderful weekend... leaving us both refreshed for a new week and reminding me - once again - what an incredible guy I married!

Happy Tuesday!

Finding Rest...

For the past couple of weeks, I have been mildly wrestling with– albeit on-and-off – feelings of discouragement, anxiety, frustration, and just generally feeling overwhelmed.  It has felt as though, at times, I am crushed under the weight of this feeling – I just haven't been myself! Well, last Wednesday, God threw me a lifeline in the shape of a conversation with a good friend.  She listened caringly, spoke truth into my life, and gave me this passage and this passage to read. What an encouragement!

It was upon this passage that the following song was crafted.  This song has become an anthem for me. A hopeline, a reminder of where our hope and our rest must come from…

I am imperfect. And, contrary to what people say, I do not have it all together. I am a cracked piece of pottery… and it is my hope that, only as the cracks become more and more evident, the light of the Potter may shine even brighter.

I hope you find rest today too.

-Laura

Listen to these:
-All I Have Is Christ - "You bore the wrath reserved for me. Now all I know is grace."

One Year Ago Today -01.09.10.- I said, "Yes"

One year ago today, on January 9th, 2010...

You took me to a park and took me by complete surprise.
You wrote me a sweet poem - and recited it to me.
You told me you loved me for the first time.
You asked me to marry you.
I said yes............
Best.Decision.
Ever.

One year later, I'm more in love with you, more captivated by you, more in awe of God's grace at giving me you.  Thank you for asking me to be your wife! It has truly been the joy of my life.

Your proposal was so thought-out, so romantic, so perfect. I loved it. Thank you for making this video for me so that we can relive and enjoy this special moment for years to come! (And thank you to all of our family for making that day so special. And thank you, Zach, for editing this video for our reception!)

I love you, CB, and I wouldn't change a single moment of our life together.

Love you to the moon...

In Case You Missed It: Our 1st Christmas Letter!

In case you missed our Christmas letter this year, here is your complementary copy!  If you want to get on the Boboth mailing list, just send your mailing address to lboboth@gmail.com. And now, the first annual Boboth Christmas letter:

Merry Christmas! We hope this letter finds you well as we celebrate this wonderful season remembering the birth of our sweet Savior! Well, once upon a time, I heard that, once a couple gets married, they are now their own family entity unto themselves. I'm good with that. In fact, I agree joyfully and wholeheartedly. The only drawback: Mom won't write my Christmas letter this year. And so we introduce to you: the first annual Boboth Christmas letter!

Wow!  How do you sum up a year in one letter? This year has been a whirlwind from start to finish!  And as we look back over the year, it is undeniable to see the fingerprints of God’s grace and faithfulness all throughout our 2010 story.

Cole set the tone for the year by kicking it off with an incredible proposal in January. Naturally, I said, “Yes!” - setting in motion the wheels of wedding planning! While I finished up my Senior year at Eastern Washington University, Cole spent the spring delving into the wonderful world of optometry at his dad’s clinic in Grandview.

In February, Cole had the opportunity to travel to Mexico with his dad on a mission trip to give eye exams and free eye glasses. The trip only served to fuel his passion for eye care, and demonstrate to us that distance truly does make the heart grow fonder.

I graduated in June with Bachelor’s degrees in Marketing Management and Human Resource Management in one hand and a countdown to our wedding in the other. One month later, on July 10, I married the man of my dreams and so was born the newest Boboth family. Thank you to all of our dear family and friends that celebrated that wonderful day with us!

We spent ten glorious days in Maui on our honeymoon learning to snorkel, surf, and manage sunburns.  It was incredibly wonderful and relaxing!  In late July, we moved down to Forest Grove, Oregon, where Cole started the Pacific University College of Optometry in August.  In God’s perfect timing, I got a job at Pacific U as an admissions counselor, recruiting high school students.  It has been so much fun to work at the same place that my wonderful husband attends grad school!

Throughout the fall, I traveled quite a bit for my job, and was relieved when travel season was finally over. Cole has stayed ridiculously busy with school, and he never ceases to impress me with his incredible discipline in his studies. He is doing so well – leaving no doubt in my mind that he will make an incredible eye doctor!

We have been blessed beyond measure in our new life together down here in Forest Grove.   We found a great church family and a delightful Bible study therein.  Cole’s brother and sister-in-law live 5 blocks away from us and have provided a never-ending source of encouragement, joy, and companionship. We are truly enjoying making this place our home. And we love visitors! So, if you are in the area, just let us know!  We are rendered speechless as we marvel at God’s exceeding grace to us this year… and we cannot wait to see what He has in store for 2011!  Merry Christmas!

Love,
Cole & Laura

Just Us

We will also remind you that this is just a BLOG…just the highlights. We don’t sit around happily smiling for pictures all day long. Our life is far from perfect: we are imperfect people serving a perfect God. We do strive to glorify God, but we fail miserably and find comfort in knowing that our debts have been paid and we have been set free.
