Working for the Weekend

Everyone knows that famous song. And, all too often, I'm afraid that it is true of my life.  I'm just biding my time in the office until 5pm on Friday, when I have 2 blissful days away from "work" to spend with my man.  Yes, I work hard, and, yes, my job can be stressful; but in my effort to seek contentment in this(and all) stage of life, this view of work seems counterproductive and wrong.

And, while I feel like there has been some growth in this area of my life, I'm afraid it's not true today.  You see, this weekend we're heading back to the beach for a weekend away before the Mr. heads back to school.  Two sweet days with the man who pursues my heart. I can hardly wait.  

And so the countdown is on... 2 days 'til Tillamook, wine-tasting, all-you-can-eat cheese (read: HEAVEN), and crossing #3 and #6 off our Forest Grove Bucket List.

Weekend, here we come!!

Our Top 10 Moments of 2011

Dear 2012,
Well, here you are. Already.  We are pretty darn excited to see what you have in store for us.  We anticipate that this year we will become a third year optometry student and admissions counselor, one year older, and hopefully a better husband and wife. 

We will celebrate our second anniversary, find out our placements for rotations, add 365 gifts to the list, and ask each others’ forgiveness a lot.  We look forward to opening our home for more dinner parties and "Friends" marathons. We have some pretty high expectations of you because, well, you see, 2011 was pretty good to us.  It set the bar really high. Just so you know what you have to live up to, here is a “Top 10” sampling of the great hand that 2011 dealt us:

So there you have it... 2011 brought some pretty sweet moments.  But it also had its tough moments, its hurt-feelings moments, its cry-for-no-reason moments, its homesick moments, its stupid-argument moments, its worrisome moments, and its growth-sucks moments.

Through it all, we praise the One who holds our past, present, and future in His omnipotent and just hand.  And, we recognize that ALL is Grace.

Merry Christmas from the Boboths! 

We hope this letter finds you well as you celebrate this holiday season.  As we approach one of the most important holidays, we are humbled and grateful for the gift of a Savior.  Praising God for the greatest gift ever: His Son and, thereby, our Salvation.

Wow, have we really come to the end of another year??  I guess time really does fly when you’re having fun, er, studying Visual Perception and Ocular Disease.  Yet, through it all, as we look back over the year, it is undeniable to see the fingerprints of God’s grace and faithfulness all throughout our 2011 story. 

We spent our year studying, cooking, traveling, learning, growing, and realizing just how blessed we are to be living this life, and to be doing so together.  Even among the fast-paced -and often stressful- tenor of life, we still marvel at how blessed we are.  Cole is doing exceedingly well in his second year at Pacific University College of Optometry, and I love being across campus working in undergraduate admissions at the same institution.

Our 2011 story began with perpetual rain.  Rain that lasted until July.  This Eastern Washington girl misses her four distinct seasons. I guess we’re not quite Oregonians yet.

Despite work and school’s craziness, we were able to snag a few weekends away to the coast – one of our all-time favorite places.  Throughout the spring, we were also blessed to make some quick trips up to Seattle to take in a few hotdogs and Mariners’ games and some quality time with family. 

We have been so blessed with our church family here.   As we get more and more involved, it becomes increasingly evident that this is where the Lord wants us.  I get to play piano for the worship team, and Cole and I – both – have the pleasure of teaching Kindergarten-2^nd Grade Sunday School. Boy, do we LOVE those kiddos!

One major highlight of the year was Memorial Day weekend. We were blessed to spend the weekend in Spokane with family.  We enjoyed sweet fellowship, amazing food – courtesy of my mom, and an absolutely stunning production of “Wicked.”  It was truly a weekend to remember.

On June 10^th, we welcomed our beautiful niece, Elsie Rose Boboth – the first person in the history of the world to make us an uncle and aunt. We are quite smitten and are very excited to have her living a little closer to us.  That same day, we celebrated the life of my great grandmother who was called Home on June 4^th.  Amidst the sorrow, there was great joy as we gathered together as a family to celebrate her incredible legacy of love and the hope that we have that we will see her again.

We celebrated our first anniversary surrounded by Cole’s family in Colorado as we gathered to celebrate Grandpa Plant’s 90^th birthday.  It was truly an overwhelming blessing to be surrounded by so much love and reminders of God’s faithfulness.  After Colorado, we headed to Reno, Nevada, to spend some quality time getting to know our new niece… and catching up with our brother and sister-in-law whom we’ve missed greatly.

In early November, we tasted the bitter-sweetness of death once more as Cole’s Grandpa Plant was promoted to Glory.  We praise God that he is no longer suffering and that he is finally in the arms of his Savior.  We miss him greatly, but – again – we rejoice in the knowledge that we will see him again.

This fall and winter have been busy, to say the least.  With Cole diving headfirst into what is easily the most challenging year of Optometry school and my travel schedule and workload intensifying at the office, we are thrilled to see this holiday season arrive and look forward with great excitement to reuniting with family and friends alike!

We pray that you have seen the Lord’s fingerprints throughout your 2011 story too… and we anxiously await what He will do in 2012!
